smiling and surviving
hiding in my shell
constantly pretending
than things are going well
I'm so very tired
of this chaotic scene
I wish I knew what I could do
to change my dull routine

frustration adds a brittle edge
to everything I do
I'm always playing catch-up
and yet I'm never through
there's too little money
and a growing list of chores
and merry freakin' Christmas
is just outside the door

I feel so very lonely
I don't know where to start
so many things to do
and they're all weighing on my heart
I truly wish I could resign
as the referee
the constant fuss and arguing
drains my energy

trying to hide my feelings
then things will be okay
but sometimes it seems impossible
just to make it through today
my shoulders aching with the weight
of this heavy load
of way too many burdens
dragged along this rocky road
