Reports Claim China Testing Ship-Mounted Railgun
2 Views • Feb 05, 2018
Description
According to a recent report, while the U.S. commitment to its long-running railgun program appears to wane, China’s own program may be winding up. In reports by Ars Technica and Tech Crunch, photos appear to show a railgun mounted to a Chinese warship normally designed to launch tanks. Ars cited an anonymous analyst who claims that the People's Liberation Army Navy ship, the Haiyang Shan, was used to mount the railgun as it offers a large dry deck that could be used to house the massive power supply and control system necessary to operate the weapon. However, the reports warn that these indications do not confirm that the Chinese army has an operational railgun, only that they are also working on the technology.
