Description

Lawyers for Toronto mayor Rob Ford want police to make public a video they say appears to back allegations that he had smoked crack cocaine.

The controversy's been dragging on since May and residents of the Canadian city have mixed feelings about the whole saga.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING:

"Lying to the public, I can't defend him any more and I'm very sorry about that."

(SOUNDBITE)(English) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING:

"He probably in the summer should have come out and admitted he had a problem. I think people would have forgiven him for that."

(SOUNDBITE)(English) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT SAYING:

"I think a lot of people are out to get him. I think a lot of people want to get him out."

On Thursday Toronto's police chief confirmed possession of a video which he said was consistent with footage previously seen by journalists.

He wouldn't describe the video's contents but said he was disappointed by what he saw
