Redknapp wants Beckham by Sunday

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is hopeful of signing David Beckham on loan by Sunday.

There has been continued speculation surrounding the immediate future of the LA Galaxy midfielder in recent weeks, with the North London club the bookies' favourite destination.

Redknapp has said that Spurs have been locked in talks with LA Galaxy all week, adding that there is a "good chance" a two-month loan deal will go ahead.

Redknapp has expressed his hopes for the deal to be sorted sooner rather than later, saying: "I think he could be here on Sunday possibly if what I'm being told on the grapevine is right."

This Sunday will see Tottenham take on Charlton in the FA Cup, a game Beckham will definitely not play in, but Redknapp still wants him there, adding: "Hopefully he will come to the game, I'm sure. I'm not 100 per cent sure but he could be here on Sunday."

Spurs is reportedly the destination of choice for Beckham after numerous Premier League clubs were apparently courting him for similar loan moves.

If Beckham does arrive at White Hart Lane by Sunday then he could be available to play his first game against former club Manchester United the following week.

The former England captain could also be eligible to play for Spurs against AC Milan in the Champions League, another club he has played for.
