Reconciliation at the Resort

Occurred on August 1, 2020 / Desert Hot Springs, California, USA

Info from Licensor: My sister had rented out a unit at a resort in Southern California last week to celebrate her birthday with a few close friends and me.

Anyway, after making our way to the pool, I do a cannonball and the dude gets mad. We apologize, leave the area he's in, and just start talking to each other.

A few minutes go by, I think it's all blown over. But then he started calling me over, saying things like 'Hey fat boy! Fat boy, come here! Fight me. I'm gonna show you respect'. Then he started flipping us off and I start to head over to where our phones are to record and call management.

He started throwing out things like 'You know what the problem with YOUR people is? You know why no one likes your people?' which is when I started recording.

He shuts up, puts on his earphones and I start to call management since there are 4 other witnesses there.

When the video starts, he claims we're' harassing', he punches me, I tackle him, and the rest is on the video.

He started crying after asking if he could apologize and I told him no. You can't hear it but he started to talk about how his brother was dying and he started tearing up so I asked him if he'd stay with us if I let him up, then hugged him once he stood up.

Don't know how much of his story I believe, but he was telling me how his brother was dying, how he's had some PTSD from serving in the Army and was just annoyed by my canon ball.

Again, I will admit I was partially at fault here. There was a no diving sign posted, and I did a cannonball. I don't think I should've been punched, though.

We talked for about 15 minutes, mainly me letting him vent, and then we went back. Me to my friends, him to suntanning. After an hour or so he got up and left, and my friends and I went back to our rental.
