Re-captured eastern Ukrainian cities adjust to new normal

Remnants of heavy violence are scattered in the eastern Ukrainian city of Semenivka.

The clean-up process has begun, after a military offensive drove out rebels Saturday.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) EMERGENCY WORKER, OLEG MORSKOY, SAYING:

"There are quite a lot of mines left here. So there is plenty of work for bomb disposal teams. It might take them another month or two here."

Kiev said it would act quickly to seize back more territory from the rebels.

This city, along with the former rebel stronghold of Slaviansk, speak volumes for a Ukrainian victory.

(SOUNDBITE) (Russian) 76- YEAR OLD SLAVIANSK PENSIONER, IVAN POPOV, SAYING:

"It is quiet. Nobody shoots. Nobody scares anyone."

Rebels were seen retreating from Slaviansk last weekend, something President Petro Poroshenko called a turning point in the conflict.

Now that the city is under the Ukrainian Army's control, relieved residents are trying their best to return to normal life.
