Rays Prey on Spider Crabs After Molting

Diver and filmmaker Pang Quong records footage of the spider crabs in Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay every year. The crabs come to the sheltered waters to molt into new softer shells. This leaves them vulnerable for a few days until those shells harden. During this time they are easy prey for creatures such as rays, who consider the fresh crab a delicacy. Credit: Pang Quong
