Raynette Eitel - Flowers From A Wedding

After the wedding, her parents
took bouquets to a nursing home
where patients clapped their hands,
remembering weddings and music and love.

That night the men reveled in
wonderful wet, salty dreams
and awakened with satisfied smiles.

The women dreamed Godiva dreams
of riding white horses through spring meadows
with garlands of forget-me-nots
across their beautiful, perky breasts.
Come morning they were blessed
with a dewy radiance and fragrance of flowers.

All that day coquettish smiles swept through
a bouquet-laden social room, as well as
some shy hand-holding between wheel chairs.
Nurses found the patients easier to put to bed
as the old folks looked forward to dreaming again.

The flowers wilted in a day or so,
along with the lust.
