A rare 75-year-old comic book featuring the debut of Superman has fetched 175,000 dollars at auction, according to comic book seller Comicconnect.com.

The comic book, Action Comics No. 1 from June 1938, was the very first appearance of the all-American superhero by writer Jerry Siegel and illustrator Joe Shuster.

It was found hidden in the wall of a Minnesota home by a building contractor.

The identity of the buyer in the online auction, which ended on Tuesday, was not disclosed.

There are only about 100 remaining copies of the 250,000 originals.

Superman gets a big-screen reboot in the movie "Man of Steel," with Henry Cavill the latest actor to play him.
