Ranger killer suspect is dead
Description
The man suspected of killing a park ranger at Mount Rainier National Park in the United States is dead.
(SOUNDBITE) CHUCK YOUNG, MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK CHIEF RANGER, SAYING (English):
"Subsequently, this afternoon a number of our tactical search teams were able to reach the body and confirm that it was indeed the deceased primary suspect in this killing Benjamin Colton Barnes and we do not have a cause of death but investigators are now working on figuring out how he, how he died."
Benjamin Colton Barnes, an Iraq war veteran was suspected of shooting ranger Margaret Anderson on Sunday when she stopped his vehicle.
He then fled on foot.
The shooting prompted a massive search and the evacuation of some 125 tourists from the park.
Wearing a black tape on his badge, Anderson's boss spoke of her dedication to her work.
(SOUNDBITE) RANDY KING, MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK SUPERINTENDENT, SAYING(English):
"Well, Margaret is just a tremendous individual. She has worked here, she and her husband, for the last four years and just an incredibly nice person, extremely passionate about working for the National Park Service like most employees are, very dedicated to her job, highly trained, highly skilled, highly motivated, excellent law enforcement officer and it is just a horrible, horrible loss."
Barnes was also a suspect in another shooting on New Year's Day, which injured three men and a woman.
