The queue to see the Queen lying in state is snaking from Westminster Hall, across Lambeth Bridge, then stretching all along the South Bank and ending east of Tower Bridge - 2.6 miles, taking more than an hour to walk. But the huge number of people wishing to pay their respects to Her Majesty means that some people have been queuing for more than six hours - some arriving as early as 5am in an attempt to beat the crowds. Those coming out of the solemn hall were unequivocal: the experience - and the respect owed to the Queen - was worth every patient step
