Protests have swept the US in response to the Grand Jury decision not to indict police officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of unarmed African American teenage Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in August. For many US citizens, the Michael Brown case is emblematic of the police brutality experienced by minority communities across the country and the persistence of racism in society.
