Protesters near the University of Tehran threw rocks and other small objects at police on Enghelab Street on December 30 as the second day of large protests flared up across the country.At the university, police fired tear gas</a> at protesters gathered by the main gate. People at the scene said police beat people with batons</a>, initially blocked protesters from leaving the grounds, but then later allowed some movement out.In Dorud, at least three people were reported killed</a> and several others injured, shot by police, during an anti-government protests. Demonstrators were said to be heard shouting, “death to Rouhani,” and “death to Khamenei,” the country’s two top leaders.At first, the protests were characterized as being against high food prices, corruption, and the cost to the country of participation in the Syrian and Yemeni wars.
