On December 6, 2008, a 15-year-old boy, Alexandros Grigoropoulos, was killed by a police officer in a district of Athens after a confrontation with police.
His death sparked the country's worst riots in decades.
The police officer involved in the shooting was sentenced to life in prison.
Since Greece's debt crisis began in 2009, austerity-hit Greeks have staged protests that often turn violent, with police and young demonstrators clashing outside parliament.
