Protesters mark Tiananmen massacre
Description
More than a thousand protesters march in Hong Kong to support human rights and democracyin China.
The march marks the 23d anniversary of the tragic events in Beijing's Tiananmen Square when Chinese troops opened fire on a peaceful demonstration, killing hundreds.
Protesters say the time is ripe to call for change in China just weeks after blind Chinese dissident Chen Guangchen fled to the U.S. after intense negotiations between the two nations.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) PRO-DEMOCRACY LEGISLATOR, LEE CHEUK-YUEN, SAYING:
"I think this year is even more urgent when you look at the case of Chen Guangcheng, obviously reflecting that China has not progressed at all in human rights. There are illegal detentions now in China and continuous harassment of human rights defenders and so I believe it's now time for the new leaders who are going to come in place to start
the change."
In two weeks on June 4 - the actual day of the Tiananmen crackdown - tens of thousands are expected to hold an annual candlelight vigil remembering the victims.
