Description

A strike in favour of a separate state has crippled the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, where for the last three weeks, thousands of state employees have joined in, causing a complete shut down.

Now they have taken their cause to New Delhi, the capital of the country, where they are demanding for their state to be called Telengana.

Located in the Andhra Pradesh's north western province, Telengana has been fought over for more than 40 years. Beyong the issue of regional identity is the fact that Telengana is one of India's most underdeveloped areas.

Al Jazeera's Prerna Suri reports from New Delhi.
