Prokhorov to take on Putin

Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire, has announced that he will be challenging Vladimir Putin for the country's presidency in 2012.

Prokhorov says he will now launch a campaign to collect the two million signatures he needs to get him on the ballot sheet, as per Russian electoral rules.

Some political players in Russia are sceptical of Prokhorov's bid, however, suggesting that he has been put up to it by Putin, the current prime minister, himself.
