Priya Patel - Fish Wrap

Twiddling my chopsticks
Unsure what to do
Glancing around
Others look nervous too

Here it comes now
Five pieces in all
Tightly wrapped raw fish
Did I just see something crawl?

No of course I didn't
Ok here I go
Sweat beads on my forehead
Does my nervousness show?

Small piece of ginger
And some wasabe paste too
I put it all together
Ok now what do I do?

I took a piece between chopsticks
It was a colorful site
Whites, greens and some pinks
Looked like a culinary delight

I closed my eyes tightly
And sank my teeth in the roll
It started off salty
But then the wasabe took control

The veggies were crunchy
You could hear as I bit through
I could hardly taste the fish
The ginger was flavorful too

The ginger and wasabe
Gave the sushi a kick
The medley of textures
Made this a unique pick

I'm not a fan of seafood
Let alone eating it raw
In fact I'm trying to be kind
And I'm actually in awe

Shocked I mean
At the things people eat
Raw fish wrapped in seaweed
What's wrong with real meat

Octopus, eels,
and sea urchins too
This is so not for me
I'll save the rest for you
