Prince William Visits Australia

No stranger to military life, Prince William proves a dab hand at target practice at this army barracks in Sydney, Australia.

The second-in-line to the British throne, on his first official visit "down under", is himself a flight lieutenant with the Royal Air

Force.

Firing off a few rounds with a lightweight machine gun, called the Minimi, William impressed with his accuracy.

[Corporal Kyle Balfoort]:

"He scored 103 millimeters which is well and truly a pass mark in the infantry paratroopers; you can get anything under 150, so he shot pretty well. Obviously he shot Minimi before back home so he is pretty good on that as well."

The eldest grandson of British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, William was later treated to a barbecue with the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge as the backdrop.

He last visited Sydney as a child in 1983, and was keen to thank for a memorable trip.

[Prince Willima]:

"I've always wanted to see the Opera House, because as the premier eluded to, the last time I was here and I saw it, it was through very small eyes and I don't quite remember very much about it. But it just takes me to say a huge thank you again, I really enjoyed being here and I look forward to coming back in the future. Thank you."

A jet boat ride around Sydney Harbour proved an exhilarating end to the day.

William is still very popular in Australia, despite a strong republican movement.

Many believe that William's father, Prince Charles - who is first in line to the throne - should abdicate and allow William to be the next king.
