Pride Flag Dispute Turns Deadly
Description
Laura Ann Carleton, the 66-year-old owner of the Mag.Pi clothing store in the San Bernardino mountains of California was fatally shot by a man who made derogatory comments about the store's Pride flag. The shooter, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found with a handgun and killed in an encounter with law enforcement. The shooting, which occurred near Lake Arrowhead in Cedar Glen, happened a month after a report indicated a rise in anti-L.G.B.T.Q. incidents in the US. Carleton was known for her advocacy for others and support for the L.G.B.T.Q. community.
