We are demonstrating a school laboratory project done by us in which Motion and presence sensors are utilized for energy conservation.
This chemical laboratory is fitted with Presence sensors also known as occupancy sensors
As the students came inside the room, the lights and AC are switched ON automatically

These are Passive Infrared sensors also known as P I R sensors. Ultrasonic sensors also are available in similar range
The exhaust fan and Gas switch also are switched on automatically.
Motion sensors are different from Occupancy sensors. Motion sensors will be activated only if the students are moving. If they are idle for some time, the lights will be switched OFF. Hence we have to use occupancy sensors for all such areas.
Motion sensors are mainly for corridors, staircases etc. where regular movements of people take place
As the students go out of the room the light and Air conditioning units are switched off automatically.
Even if the students leave the room without turning off the gas burner, same will be automatically switched OFF.
The motion sensors and presence sensors come in different models with regard to the coverage area, electrical load capacity etc. The electrical load can be increased to any extent by using auxiliary contactors.
The lights, Air conditioning units, Gas system etc. are now turned OFF. In order to clear the chemical fume, the exhaust fan will work for 10 more minutes and will be switched OFF thereafter automatically.
