Pradeep Dhavakumar - Three Poems on Silence
2 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
To test the ruggedness of Silence,
unknowingly nurtured within, for over
a decade, I put it to box with a diamond.
Both fought hard and the scores read
five all at the fourth's end. In the fifth,
having lost minerals, both fell locked
in each other's arms. Then the Diamond,
by mistake, licked Silence and at once
dropped dead. Poison read the autopsy.

Standing on a hill top, with Silence
by my side I saw an army of black ants,
in attention, slowly shaking their heads.
You took me here to see Ants? enraged
I asked Silence. Then it took my right
and placed it on its silver left and I felt
binoculars over my eyes and mind.
Then the ants became men at a burial
and I saw the wedding of man and mud.

For having overstayed in my house
I asked Silence for some extra greens.
It showed me the clean insides of
its pockets, a worthless naked body,
spread its hand like a prey-less starfish
and shrugged like a child questioned
about the true origin of life and God.
'Some Compensation at least', I demanded.
It gave me a pen with a warranty for life.
