USPSA Pistol practice
Maiatico Range, Ruther Glen, VA
February 8th, 2015
Limited Division
Minor Power Factor
U Class (unclassified)
Matches from VA down to NC were all cancelled due to precipitation, so Michael and I had to get our guns wet & dirty. I'm talkin' 'bout PRACTICE. I planned stages that wouldn't have us slipping on the snow/ice. We conducted it per match protocol, trying to simulate match conditions, as usual. Michael had his new gun, a G17! (He let me try it out too.) Fun as always. You have any ideas for our next practice?
Cold hands did not make for the best shooting, but good to learn in adverse conditions. Other than 3 misses (on the only 2 stages I felt like I really blew it), I feel like I did well. I'm getting a better feel for what a good-vs-bad shot is without having to review the target, I think. I still need to get more aggressive with all my non-shooting movements, and I need to be smoother (more cautious) with the actual sights-trigger-followthrough. Grip needs to be consistently strong & balanced. Trigger squeeze needs to be consistently straight back & smooth, with minimal finger strength & movement.
Thanks to Michael & his family for the range time!

Lessons: 1) move faster, shoot slower, 2) quick makeup shot, even if a Delta, is WAY better than a miss
I looked at the shot placement for all 5 live-fire events I've had since starting. (ech, can't format in description very easily, hmmmmmmmmm)

It seems like my A-zone rate is fairly stable around 0.60 and Cs around 0.25 (a fourth of my hits). B/D/M are all scarce, but Ms are intolerable. I need a good sample of Master class shot distribution to know how my profile stands to shift with improvement.
Let's look at some winners (below)
compare to A% B% C% D% M%
C (winner) 61 10 27 0 2
A (winner, open) 52 8 32 7 2
GM (LTD) 68 4 20 7 1
Looks like those are acceptable rates, but I'd guess they are doing this in less time than me too, but the point is to run at the edge of acceptable accuracy, which I am very close to at my level.
