Minority now majority bloc as Escudero makes switch

In a surprise turn of events, the Senate 11-member minority bloc has become the majority after Sen. Chiz Escudero switched to the opposition side on June 3, 2026.. Escudero, who belonged to the majority bloc led by Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano suddenly appeared at the plenary hall, creating a quorum. Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian was elected as Senate president pro tempore and at the same time will act as acting Senate presiding officer or Senate chief. As of posting time, all committee chairmanships have been declared vacant.
