Researchers at the University of North Carolina are using an iPhone app to recruit women for a large study on postpartum depression. The hope of the study is to identify genetic markers that indicate higher risk for the disorder. Though the conditions leading to depression can vary by type and patient, researchers do believe that there are some common genomic markers that may be used to diagnose, predict, or prevent the disorder. Women can download the iPhone app called PPD ACT, from Apple's App Store in the U.S. and Australia. It's also scheduled to be released in England as well.
