POPCAAN live @ Main Stage 2015

At twenty five years old, Popcaan (whose real name is Andrae Jay Sutherland) is one of the stars of the Jamaican dancehall scene. He was discovered at seventeen by Vybz Kartel, who became his producer and mentor, and led him to participate in prestigious events on the island like Sting and Reggae Sumfest, as an emerging artist.

The enormous success of “Clarks”, a song dedicated to the love of young Jamaican ‘rude boys’ for the famous English brand of shoes, is due in part to the presence of Kartel as well as Young Gaza Slim. “Clarks” was instrumental in launching Popcaan’s career, which continued with two mixtapes, “Hot Skull” and “Chromatic presents Yiy Change”, the remix of Busta Rhymes'”Only Man She Wants”, and several hit singles such as “Unruly Rave” and “Young, Hot & Hypert Male”. Kanye West sampled his voice in “Yeezus” , and last year he released his debut album, “Where We Come From”, with which he reached second place in the Billboard reggae charts.
