Pop culture up for grabs

Memorabilia from the world of movies and music is set to go under the hammer at Christie's salesroom in London.

Around 160 lots will be up for grabs including costumes, photographs and personal items dating from every decade of the past century from the entertainment industry.

"There are lots of things that boost the iconic status of a piece in particular, like who wore it of course. So if it's someone that's really popular from a band or someone from a film that spanned generations so obviously The Rolling Stones or The Beatles, when and where they used it, whether they used it on stage, or there are photos of them on stage, it really helps to boost the provenance."

Items that are sure to garner a lot of attention are a pair of Madonna's cone bra-style outfits, a recently rediscovered 18ct. gold and diamond Rolex watch given to Elvis Presley by his manager in 1976 and a flamboyant lace-up sleeveless white velour jumpsuit worn by Mick Jagger for The Rolling Stones' U.S. Tour in 1972.

From the world of movies, an original concept painting of Pinocchio is expected to fetch $72,000 U.S. dollars (£45,000).

And a hand-made whip used by Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones" is estimated to realise up to $24,000 U.S. dollars (£15,000).

The items will be sold on November 29th at Christie's South Kensington in London.
