Polls open in Egypt

Army soldiers were guarding polling stations in Egypt's second largest city Alexandria on Monday (November 28).
Egyptians were minutes away from voting in the country's first parliamentary elections since the revolution toppled Hosni Mubarak last February.
In Cairo, People gathered in front of polling stations in the working class Sayyeda Zeinab neighbourhood from early morning to cast their ballots in elections that pit a coalition of liberal parties against Islamist parties that are favoured to sweep the vote.
Egyptians in Cairo, Alexandria and other areas included in the first phase of the staggered lower house election were allowed to vote from 8 a.m. (0600 GMT) and polls were due to close at 7 p.m. (1700 GMT).
Voters in this round can vote today or on Tuesday (November 29).
