Police swoop on Nasheed: video
Description
PLEASE NOTE: EDIT CONTAINS CONVERTED 4:3 MATERIAL
Local Maldivian television footage shows the country's ousted president being led away by police.
The video footage inside a store was aired on Raajje TV.
Mohamed Nasheed, the country's first democratically elected president, says he was was forced to resign at gunpoint.
His departure from power on Tuesday followed three weeks of opposition protests and a police mutiny.
This video of police and demonstrators clashing a day after his resignation was released by Nasheed's own Maldivian Democratic Party.
The party says it shows the brutal tactics being used to break up the protest.
Riot police and soldiers fired tear gas to disperse the demonstrators in the capital, Male.
Witnesses say up to 50 people have been injured...others have been hauled away.
Vice President Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik's been installed as president in Nasheed's place.
He denies there's been a coup despite a widely-reported meeting last month at which opposition parties swore allegiance to him.
