Plane flying too low, and too slow-NTSB

Pilot error, or mechanical malfunction? Transportation officials investigating the deadly plane crash of Asiana flight 214 say maybe a combination of both.

National Transportation Safety Board officials say the pilots relied on equipment to maintain the planes speed, but didn't notice the equipment wasn't working until it was too late.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD CHAIRWOMAN DEBORAH HERSMAN SAYING:

"They had set speed at 137 knots and he assumed that the auto throttles were maintaining speed. (cover) At two hundred feet he noticed the four PAPIS were red, the airspeed was in the hatched area on the speed tape and he recognized that the auto throttles were not maintaining speed."

The flight's crash landing killed two people and injured more than 180.

Further investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
