Plane crash: Single engine Piper Warrior falls from the sky inuring trainee pilot

A young Malaysian man is in hospital after surviving a light plane crash in the country's northeast.

The trainee pilot believed to be in his 20s took in the single engine Piper Warrior from Sultan Ismail Petra airport. He was flying alone. Conditions were fine.

For reasons not yet clear the aircraft lost altitude near Pengkalan Chepa and the plane made a hard crash landing beside a road.

The man, who was not identified in local media reports, suffered serious injuries. Some 30 minutes passed before rescue a rescue crew freed him from the wreckage. He was transferred to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
