Pika- The Little Mouse

We have read a poem about a mouse and a dog in which the dog wants to take the mouse to court. Did you know that squirrels and mice belong to the rodent family of animals?

One such rodent is the Pika. It is a small animal with short limbs, very round body, rounded ears, and no external tail. They live in mountainous countries in Asia, with two species also in North America. They show their peak activity just before the winter season.

Pikas graze on a range of plants, mostly grasses, flowers and young stems. In the autumn, they pull hay, soft twigs and food into their burrows for the long, cold winter.
