Description

Typhoon Rammasun has unleashed its fury on the Philippines, killing at least 10 people, prompting mass evacuations and battering Manila.

The strongest storm to hit the country this year uprooted trees in the capital where government buildings, schools and businesses were closed.

Despite the powerful gusts, the city suffered less than other parts of the archipelago which is still recovering from a devastating typhoon last November that killed more than 6,000 people.

Also known as Glenda, Typhoon Rammasan meaning ‘god of thunder’ has forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Among the tragedies reported, three members of one family died when a wall fell down on top of them southeast of Manila and an 11-month-old baby boy was also killed by a collapsing wall in a house near the capital.
