Pete Crowther - The Pipistrelle

Our cat brought home a pipistrelle,
Intact but traumatized.
I held it up to fly away,
It would not leave my hand.
Its breast was warm against my palm,
I felt its beating heart.
So strangely intimate it seemed
That moment when two creatures met,
The one so large, the other small.
