Description
A team of explorers has set out on two rafts from Peru on a 5,000 mile journey destined for Easter Island in Valparaiso, Chile. The voyage commemorates the original Kon Tiki expedition undertaken in 1947 by Norwegian ethnographer Thor Heyerdahl and five crew members who landed on the Polynesian island of Raroia after a 101 day voyage. The difference 68 years later will be the use of renewable energy. Solar panels will be used to measure the ecosystem of the South Pacific Ocean. teleSUR
