People get turned on by touching robots' naughty bits, scientists say
7 Views • Apr 09, 2016
Description
The researchers found in 26 trials conducted with 10 volunteers, a physiological response occurs in people who touch the private parts of humanoid machines, the Guardian reported.
The scientists discovered that touching the "less accessible" regions of a robot's body was more arousing for the volunteers — four women and six men — than getting a feel of its hands or feet.
"Our work shows that robots are a new form of media that is particularly powerful. It shows that people respond to robots in a primitive, social way," Jamy Li, a mechanical engineer at Stanford University who led the study, was quoted by the Guardian.
"The research has implications for both robot design and the theory of artificial systems."
The researchers will present their findings at the 66th annual conference of the International Communication Association in Japan, in June, the Guardian reported.
