Peggy Hapke Lewis - Light Rail

If I told you the dead connect
with those left here on earth
whenever someone thinks or dreams of them
you would only ask me who said so
and how I know that souls may
travel only on that golden thread
of thought or night-sleep image
in order to instruct, cajole
or worry us with guilt.

So I will say, please think of me
each day and often when I'm dead,
and speak of me to all my friends
whose number offers richness there
in copper clouds where beams
I'll ride are multiplied by memory
until one by one the authors of
this silken highway slip to a final
destination, becoming infrequent
travellers on the shirttails of synapse.
