'Peanut Patch' could cure peanut allergies in children
1 Views • May 14, 2015
Description
The skin patch contains a small dose of peanut protein which will be absorbed into the human body once applied to the skin. This would solicit the immune system's reaction, known as Epicutaneous Immunotherapy. Over time, as more and more peanut protein is introduced into the body, desensitization will make the immune system used to the allergen.
It was reported that approximately 20 percent of patients between the ages of 5 to 17 were able to consume ten times the amount of peanut protein after wearing the patch for about 12 months.
