The entire nation, as well as some neighboring countries, experienced the wrath of what was then known as "The Sleeping Giant" Mt. Pinatubo when it erupted in 1991. It resulted in destruction of property amounting to billions of Pesos and an immeasurable loss of life, turning entire towns into a sea of lahar. Now, this sea of lahar leads to one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country -- the Pinatubo Crater Lake. Paradise truly can be born out of ashes.
