Pankridge Street Flooding

Crondall is the new Atlantis as the village celebrates Christmas underwater.

Villagers in Hampshire have been left in misery as flooding dampens their Christmas spirits.

Residents in Crondall are facing anything but a white Christmas as a block drainage pipe has caused water to spill onto roads and pavements.

The blockage under Pankridge streets has created hazardous conditions for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians many of whom are elderly.

The pipe transports water from a Thames Water sewage treatment plant into the River Hart and is continuing to pump water into the system exacerbating the situation.

However, it is Hampshire County Council’s Highways Department who are responsible for the blockage in the pipe but residents have felt their complaints are unheard by the council as the issue has not been addressed leaving the community frustrated.

Cold winter temperatures are expected over the coming days furthering resident’s concerns if actions is not taken soon.

Among those affected is Crondall resident Luke Stewart, whose driveway and garden have been submerged by the flooding. Voicing his frustration, He said: “This has been a nightmare. Our Christmas plans have been ruined by this mess. It’s infuriating that nobody is stepping up to sort it out. Hampshire County Council isn't responding to our complaints, and Thames Water is making it worse by pumping more water into the pipe. How are we supposed to deal with this on our own?”

The issue has left Crondall residents feeling abandoned this Christmas in what is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year.

A Spokesperson for Hampshire County Council said“To clear this blockage we have arranged for high-pressure jetting to take place on Pankridge Street, on Wednesday 18 December.”
