Pam Thomas - Lost Dreams

The winds howl as dawn breaks the
night sky and morning brings the daunting
task of another breath, telling the soul, it’s
not time to fly. Haunting whispers of voices
from the past strips me naked and exposes bleeding wounds at last.

Barren and broken I stand, begging for release
of the pain at hand. Flung into the abyss my
heart is floating and lost, reeling, screaming
and counting the cost. All hopes and dreams
came so suddenly to an end and I grope
for answers of what I cannot comprehend.

Like the leaves of an autumn tree, brown and
withered, laying on the ground, so is the love that
was once found. Oh my soul screams for rest,
from familiar feelings and memories of how we
once caressed. Let this love be ripped from the
core of my inner self, and cast into the sea,
where by the hand of time there will be nothing
left.

My mind is weary now and longs for peace,
for the deceptions of life have left it weak. Oh
that the wounds of yesterday be healed and the
scars of today never be revealed, unto the eyes
of another.
