Pakistan 'terror' comments backlash continues

Britain's High Commissioner has been summoned by the Pakistan government over criticial comments made by David Cameron.

Adam Thomson has been called to meet foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

The Prime Minister has sparked fury with remarks during a trip to regional rival India last week.

He suggested elements in Pakistan were "looking both ways" on Islamist violence and "promoting the export of terror".

His remark was widely interpreted as a response to the leak of thousands of secret documents on the Afghan conflict, which included numerous allegations of collusion between Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI and the Taliban.

It has prompted anger on the streets of Karachi where an effigy of the premier was burnt by protestors.

A visit by agents of Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency to the UK for talks with British security officers has been cancelled.

The comments are set to be back on the agenda on Tuesday as Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari visits London.

He is meeting David Cameron at his country retreat Chequers where he is set to be corrected by Zardari for his "misconception".
