Description

Apollo, the Greek god, gave his son Orpheus a lyre and taught him how to play it. It was said that nothing could resist his music. Orpheus charmed the wood nymph Eurydice from a tree and fell in love with her. Their life together was blissful until she was chased through the forest by Aristaeus and died when bitten by a snake, her soul taken to Hades. Orpheus made his way across the river Styx upon Charon the ferryman's boat and into the underworld to request Eurydice's release. Using his music in an attempt to charm death (Hades), Orpheus's flute playing moved Persephone who pleaded on his behalf. Hades granted Orpheus his wish, but with one condition - she must walk behind him and he must never turn to look at her, otherwise she would once again return to the realm of the dead, forever...
