Orlando Belo - Goodbye Old, Hello New

I’ve just returned from visiting friends,
and to be honest I shouldn’t have gone.
They seemed rather miffed about something,
I suppose it was something I said, or done?

They didn’t really take time to explain,
they just swore and called me names.
I couldn’t understand what their problem was,
and yet they said that I was to blame.

I asked them calmly what they meant,
but all I got was verbal abuse.
In the end I told them if that’s how they feel
my good hearted visit was of no use.

What gets my goat is the trouble I took
to cross over that great divide.
These people were once very close to me,
yet they felt nothing for me inside.

Here and now, I’m at a bit of a loss,
and I feel like an unwanted ghost.
I suppose there must be someone around
who’ll make a metaplasmic host.
