Opposition want CSAT scrapped

Seeking to resolve the raging row over the UPSC civil services examinations, the BJP-led NDA government today announced in Parliament that English marks in CSAT-II will not be included for gradation or merit and that students who took the 2011 UPSC exams will get another shot at it next year.
The row is, however, likely to continue as the agitating students apparently remained unsatisfied while vowing to continue their protests on the streets. A number of political parties also went after the government, attacking it for the situation. The protesting students have been demanding scrapping of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in the UPSC preliminary exam, alleging that it was “discriminatory” against Hindi, regional language, and humanities students and that it gave “advantage” to English-medium, engineering and management students.
