When CHANCE (Brian Pressley) returns home to the port city of San Pedro, CA after five years in prison, his one-time girlfriend KAT (Allison Eastwood) introduces him to their son and then unexpectedly abandons them both. His dreams of a clean start are further complicated when he is forced to assume his best friend's enormous debt to local mobster EDDIE (Peter Weller). The added emotional and financial burden thrusts Chance back into the dangerous world of underground bare knuckle fighting, drug dealing and police corruption.

Despite these escalating pressures, Chance meets and falls in love with PEARL (Taraji P. Henson) and the prospect of living a normal life finally seems within reach. However, before Chance can move forward, he must seek the help of his estranged father, LIAM (Ed Harris), who is serving a life sentence for committing a brutal murder, and has worked up the ranks of a ruthless Aryan prison gang.
