Todd Wolfe bought the boarded-up, 8,000-square-foot residence in 1997 and opened the most popular Halloween attraction in the state. But odd things happened. Volunteers had "incidents" and people didn't like an upstairs bedroom.
Wolfe, a skeptic of the paranormal, began feeling breaths on the back of his neck. He would get touched when no one else was in the room. The Clovis PD would come out, answering phantom 911 calls and alarm alerts. The house had no alarm. It had no phone line.
Soon, paranormal investigation groups from across North America visited the house.
Because of their evidence, some proclaimed Wolfe Manor as the most "active" building in all of California. They captured voices – old and young, in different accents, heard footsteps and voices, got touched and captured phenomenal photographs.
It is an old house built in the early 1900s by an Italian immigrant named Tony Andriotti but a Mrs. Brashears bought it in the Depression, opening the Clovis Sanitarium in 1942. For 50 years the mental illness hospital and convalescent home held countless patients in its crowded rooms. Most died here. Some gave birth here.
Recordings of the 911 calls are available upon request. So are Clovis Sanitarium Birth Certificates and phone numbers for paranormal groups that have proclaimed Wolfe Manor's prominence in California's registry of haunted places.
