Description

The headstones stand,
Row upon row,
The Blood that was spilt,
It reaps what it sows,
And the red, red poppies,
They grow and grow,
Row upon row upon row.

Their names are engraved,
Plaque upon plaque,
The realisation,
Strikes like a smack,
And those poor, poor men,
They took the flack,
Plaque upon plaque upon plaque upon plaque.

“Over the top boy’s! ”
“Don’t ever stop boys! ”
“Glory will come Boys! ”
“But, don’t dropp boys! ”
“Hear them rifles, ”
“Pop, pop, pop, boys! ”
Over and over the top.

Bullet on bullet,
Gun upon gun,
The sombre men pray,
To see the morning sun,
The constant firing,
Echoes like a drum,
Gun upon gun upon gun.

Thousands of soldiers,
Man upon man,
Gentlemen we are,
We make a stand,
Give them a break,
Give them a hand,
Man upon man upon man.

Artillery bombardment,
Hole upon hole,
Dead men buried,
No one will know,
Out into No mans Land,
A short stroll,
Hole upon hole upon hole.

The headstones stand,
Row upon row,
The blood that was spilt,
It reaps what it sows,
And the red, red poppies,
They grow and grow,
Row upon row upon row
