Description

The great KOWE bird had let out its scream
Let loose announcement; fall of Iroko
Water no more flows, death is the fish's whim
Why aren't you talking IYA ALAGBO?

The great elephant falls in the jungle,
Its snout passes no air, its trunk breathless.
Now that the great Ajanaku crumbles
The calf is vulnerable. Lo, motherless.

She's a brave Moremi-like lioness.
A mother-hen that shields her chicks from the
Claws of the great Awodi's hot fierceness.
But lo, their protector shall no more be.

Behold her workaholic bones, body
It lies lifeless and smiles like she's sleeping.
The motionless body lies soul-lessly.
Ha! Though I bear strength, my heart is weeping.

When Aremu comes home who shall praise him?
Who shall chant the Egba tongue praise of me?
Risiwa, Abiba accepts the whim.
Saheed, Kafaya, Ahmed! Fate must be.

Verily, you have brought pain to our hearts,
You wished it not but destiny had won.
Pray for us to lay on beds and not mats!
Always be with us and never forlorn.
