Oil field clashes halt production
Description
ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION
Colombian police clashed with protesters at the Pacific Rubiales oilfield, shutting around 225,000 barrels of oil per day and forcing the company to declare force majeure, the firm and a union said.
Executive Director of Canada's Pacific Rubiales, Camilo Valencia, said the company was forced to suspended production from the Quifa and Rubiales fields.
Angry workers blocked roads and destroyed company property, while police tried to disperse them with anti-riot measures and tear gas.
Anti-riot police sent to protect the oil installations clashed with protesters demanding better working conditions.
Last July and August, protesters rocked Rubiales, clashing with police as they demonstrated over the desire for more jobs locally, better services and infrastructure and environmental damages.
